518 inhabitants – 750m above sea level – 723 ha. Rotzel is the largest of Laufenburgs boroughs. The village “Rotsol” was mentioned for the first time in an official document in 1266. And Rotzel resident Ulrich Klein was a witness at the trial mentioned in the section above. It is also documented that some of the stones used to build a bridge in Laufenburg in 1532 contained stones from “Rotzel in the Black Forest”. In 1873, Fridolin Jehle was born in Rotzel. Later in his life, he was to help the local weaving industry in the region to survive. Since 1972, Rotzel belongs to Laufenburg.
